Management of Acute Cardiac Trauma



Abstract
Trauma continues to bone of the leading causes of death and morbidity in our country. Increasing urban violence, advances in mechanization of industries, and, most noteworthy, man¢¥s preoccupation with speed all play major roles in this uncontrolled epidemic of accidental death and disability. It is estimated that thoracic trauma accounts for 25 percent of all traumatic deaths, and primary cardiac injury is a major contributing causes. A cardiac injury is one of the most dramatic one demanding emergencies that may be cared by the surgeon. Thus, every member of a trauma team must have a through knowledge of diagnosis and management of cardiac injuries-penetrating and blunt-to effect an improvement in the overall survival of this group of trauma patients.
